Danish Jonas Vingegaard wins the Tour de France
Sunday 24 July, Danish Jonas Vingegaard could call himself the winner of the prestigious Tour de France 2022 as the peloton finished the final stage in Paris.
This is 25-year-old Vingegaard’s first Tour de France victory, after being the runner-up in last year's race. Vingegaard is the first Dane to win the race since 1996.
The victory comes following a tour kicking off in Denmark with an individual time trial in Copenhagen and two stages going from Roskilde to Nyborg and from Vejle to Sønderborg. It furthermore adds to 2022 being “The Year of the Bicycle in Denmark”, a title first announced by the Danish Ministry of Transportation following a large infrastructure plan investing $458 million in new cycling infrastructure.

Vingegaard is born and raised in the North Jutland region of Denmark, specifically the town of Hillerslev in the Thy area. The locals have been celebrating throughout the Tour de France and cheering for Vingegaard.
This region of Denmark is especially known for its nature and outdoor experiences in the Thy National Park. Visitors and locals alike can make the most of the park, by venturing along the extensive system of cycle paths through quiet forests and open heaths.
Jonas Vingegaard returns home to Denmark Wednesday 27th July and will be celebrated on Copenhagen City Hall Square and in Tivoli Gardens from 1pm CET.
