Ringsted's old Town Arms

When the Have Mølle waterworks needed to be expanded in 1963, employee Emil Hansen offered to carve a wooden model of the old town seal from before 1300.

Four copies of this model were cast, and they are displayed respectively on the Water Tower in Sct. Hansgade, on the gable of the Stock Exchange, at the Municipal Works, and on the former nursing home on Hækkerupsvej.

The seal reads “Sigillum Villannorum De Ringstad,” meaning the seal of Ringsted Town, not the monastery’s, which is why it survived the monastery's dissolution in 1917. In 1938, Ringsted Municipality was registered as the sole rightful user of the seal.

When the municipalities were merged in 1970, it became the emblem of the new large municipality and was used as the town's coat of arms until January 2014.

The coat of arms is best seen above the entrance to the Water Tower in Sct. Hansgade.
