The story is derived from the autobiographical novel Tu as changé ma vie by Abdel Sellou, which describes his time as a caretaker for French aristocrat Philippe Pozzo di Borgo. The feel-good comedy film The Intouchables, released in 2011, quickly became the most-watched French film worldwide ever.
