70s festival at Den Gamle By - The Old Town Museum

This year is the 50th anniversary of 1974, and it's being celebrated all around the 70s neighbourhood in Den Gamle By. Take a journey back to the 70s - back to equality. To the collectives. To Bob Dylan.

Experience or relive the colourful decade and explore shops and homes. Talk to the postman, see retro cars and enjoy a retro lunch at Restaurant Gæstgivergården.

Yoyos and wide trouser legs

Enjoy concerts in the 1974 neighbourhood with the Dylan Duo, playing Bob Dylan songs and other famous songs from the 1970s. You can also visit the many new shops in the pedestrianised area.

1974 flats and residents
Meet the postman and explore the small homes - visit the commune, the nuclear family and the hippie couple.

Flavour of the 70s
Buy open sandwiches in Gæstgivergården or enjoy a hot dog, Jolly Cola or Cocio in Pølsevognen. In the Café Bonnich pastry shop you can buy classics like beehives and napoleon hats.

70s rock in the streets
Music fills the streets when the Dylan Duo performs famous 70s tracks.

Do-it-yourself in the KreativiTent
Explore 1970s creativity and do-it-yourself with recycled and cheap materials as they did back then (kids can make kazoos, recycled paper fish, cardboard ships and more - or paint paper plates like during the 'plate ladies' strike in the 70s).

Moped thugs in the streets
See, smell and hear the sound of old mopeds as the thugs ride around the 70s neighbourhood. Also check out the beautiful vintage cars in the streets.

Live music at Jazzbar Bent J
Experience live jazz music and buy an 'Aarhus set' at the legendary Aarhus pub Bent J.

The 1974 neighbourhood

The 70s was a time of upheaval that many of us remember. Norms were up for discussion. The nuclear family faced the collective, pop music faced rock music, chicken knitting faced cross stitch. Den Gamle By tells the whole story in the neighbourhood from 1974, in the apartments and shops.
