If you're looking for a city break with just the right balance of colour and relaxation, you're in the right place. Copenhagen's famed liveability is all tied up with its love for green spaces - you're rarely more than 300m from a park, stretch of water, public garden or beach.

The 11 best parks and gardens in Copenhagen

From the King's Garden to cemeteries that are used as public spaces, farmlands on the edge of the city and the historic Botanical Gardens in the heart of the city, these are some of the city's most beloved parks and gardens.

The historic one

Autumn is the perfect time to explore the deer park at Dyrehaven, once the hunting grounds of the Danish Royal Family.

The sandy one

Amager Strand Park is a short metro ride from the city centre with almost 5km of beach to explore and plenty of activities to enjoy.

The lakes

Copenhagen's five lakes in the heart of the city are a lovely place to stroll, jog, push a pushchair or watch the birds.

The new one

Banegaarden is a newly-reclaimed green space in the centre of the city with a teahouse, community gardens and farmshop.

Cycling

The classic way to see and experience Copenhagen's green spaces is by bike. Take a trip to the beach with your bike on the train, explore the city's larger parks in their entirety, or just cruise around and enjoy the autumn sun.

Take a GoBoat for a spin around the harbour and discover the city from the water.
