Tourism Talk on July 27 at 17:30

Tourism and Authenticity

Tourists tend to flock to the same places. Still, we increasingly seek an experience of authenticity when we travel. The feeling of discovering a gem that no one knew existed – or that hidden restaurant known only to locals, yet a great success. How does this demand affect the tourism industry? And how can one maintain authenticity in a world where we all travel to the same places? Join two key players in tourism from Denmark and France as they discuss authenticity and tourism at The Denmark Pavilion, where VisitDenmark’s CEO Katja Moesgaard will converse with Michael Dodds from Normandie Tourisme.

Minister Visit on July 28 at 14:00

Minister of Business Morten Bødskov will tour the pavilion with VisitDenmark’s CEO, Katja Moesgaard. They will discuss how innovation can pave the way to a better life.

Creative Talk on August 2 at 15:45

Meet Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen in conversation with LEGO Group

Denmark is a small country with room for big ideas. Some of these have laid the foundation for global companies with products known around the world.

LEGO Group is the perfect example of playful innovation that has become an international brand connecting generations of both children and adults.

But how do you maintain that playful mindset in a serious business world? How do you stay at the top of the innovative game when your core product has a lifespan of decades? And what does it mean to be rooted in Danish values while operating in a global market? Does it provide an advantage – or is it a barrier?

In The Denmark Pavilion, Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will meet LEGO Group’s Chief Product & Marketing Officer Julia Goldin for a conversation about innovation, play, and what it means to be Danish.

COMMUNAL SINGING

Opera singer Jens-Christian Wandt will lead communal singing at The Denmark Pavilion on July 29 and 30 at 11:30. Is there anything more Danish than communal singing with songs from our beloved songbook? Sing along in Danish – whether it’s your mother tongue or not.

CONCERTS

Five artists will give a total of 30 concerts during The Denmark Pavilion’s opening hours. There will be concerts every afternoon and evening – except on August 1, when the pavilion closes at 16:00. Here are the five artists you can experience:

DAYYANI is the Danish-Iranian sensation that has made waves on the pop scene with her profound and energetic music. With hits like ‘Blink Twice,’ which was the 10th most played song on P3 in 2023, Dayyani has emerged as one of Denmark's most promising new artists. With performances at major festivals such as Roskilde and the German Reeperbahn, she has also attracted international attention, especially in Germany.

Dayyani is presented in collaboration with Aarhus Municipality and will perform on July 26 (at 17:00 and 18:00), July 27, and July 28 at 17:00 and 19:00.

JJ PAULO has established himself in the Danish music scene with his energetic poppy Afrobeat. His music and presence extend far beyond Denmark's borders, and several international festivals have already booked him for 2024.

In 2023, JJ Paulo performed more than 75 concerts in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and the UK and was awarded the Danish Music Award Roots for “Concert Experience of the Year.”

JJ Paulo promises that no one will stand still in Frederikskirken when he performs on July 29, 30, and 31 – every day at 17:00 and 19:00.

BRIMHEIM represents one of the most striking talents in the alternative pop and rock scene. She has received acclaim from both Danish and international critics, including four Faroese Music Awards and the Carl Prize as "Talent of the Year" in 2022.

The singer is already establishing herself in the French market, and her showcase will serve as a springboard for exposure in the French music scene.

Brimheim will perform at The Denmark Pavilion on August 2, 3, and 4 – every day at 17:00 and 19:00.

LYDMOR has spent the years before and after the release of her critically acclaimed album "I Told You I’d Tell Them Our Story" from 2018 on intense tours across Europe, the UK, the USA, Latin America, and Asia. She has previously performed at several concerts and festivals in France and will use this showcase to mark her strong return to the French music market.

She is known for delivering a magical blend of challenging visual shows and enchanting conceptual electropop.

Lydmor will perform at The Denmark Pavilion on August 5, 6, and 7 – every day at 17:00 and 19:00.

TEITUR is an experienced artist on the Nordic music scene with two Danish Grammy Awards, over 1,000 concerts, and 8 studio albums. He has played over 400 concerts alone in North America and has appeared on TV shows including MTV and VH1.

Teitur debuted in 2003 with the album "Poetry & Aeroplanes," which became a cult hit in France. He has also collaborated with several French artists, such as Nolwenn Leroy, who has sold Gold with Teitur as a co-producer and writer.

Teitur will perform at The Denmark Pavilion on August 8, 9, and 10 – every day at 17:00 and 19:00.

DIGITAL ART

In collaboration with some of Denmark's most renowned museums and cultural institutions, visitors can experience digital artworks in Frederikskirken, which has been transformed into a cultural space during this period.

Letter to a Cycad

Embark on a visual journey with 'Letter to a Cycad,' an award-winning documentary produced by the Natural History Museum Denmark. Dive into the botanical expedition of Copenhagen’s oldest living plant, narrated poetically to explore evolution and human impact on nature. Experience the beauty and depth of this film, which has been internationally praised for its captivating storytelling.

Let Your Voice be Heard

Experience 'Let Your Voice be Heard' by the Danish National Girls' Choir, celebrating the profound impact of the human voice and honoring N.F.S. Grundtvig's legacy. This captivating performance blends traditional Danish hymns with contemporary compositions and empowers young women through song. Founded in 1938, the choir embodies Grundtvig’s ideals and demonstrates the lasting influence of youthful voices in shaping the future.

Enter the Fairytale

'Enter the Fairytale' is a tribute to our world-renowned fairy tale author, Hans Christian Andersen, and his ability to understand and narrate the world in all its beauty and brutality. Experience the world from the perspective of the steadfast tin soldier. He is resolute and endures through all on his long journey, yet without the means to express himself and his inner life to the world. This digital artwork is provided by Hans Christians Andersen’s House in Odense.

Gymnopedie by Ying-Hsueh Chen

'Gymnopedie' is a sound art piece by percussionist and composer Ying-Hsueh Chen. This enchanting work, inspired by Erik Satie, intertwines themes of time, architecture, and environmental awareness, offering an almost meditative journey. Chen's use of the marimba brings buildings to life and transforms an abandoned water tower into a singing structure.

REFRESHMENTS AND CREATIVITY

Every day, visitors can delve into stories of Danish ideas that have reached far beyond our small country's borders at The Denmark Pavilion’s exhibition.

Free refreshments from Danish companies like Mikkeller, Faxe Kondi, Sun Lolly, and Iskilde are also available. Guests can build their own LEGO flower, take a hearing test from GN Hearing, try VR glasses from HekaVR, or play board games from Nordisk or SproutWorld. Find the full program here.
